World Craft Council leader to share strategies for ‘Globalising Local’ at BGC2024 in Kuching

World Craft Council Asia Pacific Region (WCC APR) president Aziz Murtazaev will deliver a keynote presentation at the upcoming BorneoCraft Global Conference 2024 (BGC2024) at the Hilton Hotel Kuching this Nov 29.

With the theme “Globalising Local”, the presentation will focus on empowering local businesses to elevate their practices and meet the evolving expectations of global markets.

As markets continue to evolve and consumer preferences shift increasingly toward authenticity and sustainability, local craft businesses play a vital role in bringing unique, culturally rich products to a worldwide audience, Aziz said in a statement today.

The presentation will outline practical strategies for local artisans to enhance their offerings, tap into global trends while maintaining their distinctiveness, and attract new customers in diverse markets.

“We are at a pivotal moment where local craftsmanship is not just valued for its uniqueness but is sought after for its sustainable practices and cultural significance.

“Through our session ‘Globalising Local,’ we aim to inspire local businesses to embrace their heritage while equipping them with the tools necessary to thrive on a global scale,” Aziz pointed out.

The presentation will also emphasise the importance of supporting local craft communities, underscoring how these enterprises are not just vital to local economies but also crucial for preserving cultures and traditions.

Conference attendees can expect a rich discourse from speakers and experts during the conference where numerous masterclasses are also planned.

Some of the topics will cover craft tourism, craft products branding and marketing, entrepreneurial approaches to support NGO craft organisations, and as well strategies for integrating local craftsmanship into the global supply chain.

BCG2024 will see some newly created craft tourism packages where operators can lean on marketing techniques to highlight the unique stories behind local products.

A total of 26 speakers, panellists, and moderators will be featured at Borneo Craft Global Conference.

BCG2024 promises to be a dynamic platform where local artisans and business leaders advocate for sustainable practices.
